Whether it’s liquid, pressed powder, cream to powder, minerals, stick or crème we have choices, oh don’t we? – when it comes to our foundation. From full coverage and matte to light and dewy, we can find something we like. Foundation serves as the canvas for the rest of your makeup. It can cover our flaws, including a break out, and even change our natural skin tone, if we so choose. For example, if your skin is oily, you don’t want to use the same type of foundation someone with dry skin prefers, or if you have acne you most likely won’t want a sheer coverage foundation. And! If you have normal skin with an even skin tone, you may not want the level of coverage some foundations provide. We are all different.
I prefer a liquid foundation. I use three different foundations throughout the year and each one is used for a specific reason. YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclat is a very light foundation that includes a broad spectrum SPF 19 sun protection. It’s a weightless, illuminating foundation and combines the effect of the Touche’ Eclat I discussed in a previous post as a 4-Second Miracle. Product labeling notes state it ‘targets shadowy areas and highlights the contours of the face. Free of opaque fillers, its perfecting texture evens the complexion and helps conceal imperfections while enhancing your skin’s natural beauty.’ SPF is important to me… and should be to all of us… especially those of us that are fortunate to live under the glorious Texas sky.
At other times I want a little more coverage. That’s when I turn to Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation SPF 15. Again it has a good SPF rating. I like this one at night, as long as I am not at a sporting event outside. Then it would be too heavy. I have been using Smashbox for about 6 years now. The makeup is the long lasting, flawless & a little bit goes a long way. The coverage is sheer to medium depending on your application. It goes on smoothly (I use a sponge) and makes my skin look flawless. The soft finish and slight sheen add a healthy glow to my skin.
But during the winter months I want a different look at times and my favorite foundation is NARS. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation is a glowing, natural radiant finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage that evens skin tone. It does not have an SPF rating but it does contain powerful anti-oxidants to protect against damaging free radicals and turmeric extract to improve skin’s radiance and tone. This foundation is very smooth and very fluid in texture so I put it on with my fingertips and spread evenly with my hands. I can make the coverage sheer, light or build it to a medium coverage. NARS Complexion Brightening Formula, leaves my skin hydrated, more luminous, softer and smoother. The product’s label says if used daily, Sheer Glow Foundation improves the skin’s brightness and texture.
So if you are looking for a change, but not sure what it is, visit a beauty advisor at your favorite store. They are there to inform you and guide you on your quest. They are experts at picking out the best color for you as well. If you are at Nordstrom’s in North Park, look for Angie, Yulia, or if you are at Neiman’s ask for Aaron at the Trish Mcevoy counter.
Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer’s enigmatic Girl with a Pearl Earring has intrigued art lovers for over four centuries. You may not have pearl earrings in your ears, but your face – your canvas – can get the attention of your friends and those that pass you on the street with just the right foundation application.
