It’s a New Year and time to restock my beauty bag. It’s kind of like “out with the old” and making room for the new. We all do it in one way or another, don’t we? Clean. Discard. Donate.
Looking though my bag…I see mascara. If it was purchased 6 months ago… throw it away! There is nothing worse than getting a ‘pink eye’ or a sore eyelid that tainted mascara can cause. Besides, you purchased new tubes at the Mascara Event in November didn’t you? Toss it! Do the same with your powder, if it’s a year old. Pencils and lipsticks can stay around longer, but you might use the sharpener on a pencil if it hasn’t been used in few months and clean the top layer off with a shave.
This is a good time for you to wash your makeup application brushes, too. You can use one of the many cleaning agents available for brushes through retail markets or you can fill a large glass with shampoo and very hot water and let them soak for several hours. Thoroughly rinse each one and let them air dry throughout the day or night, so they will be fresh and ready for you the next day.
One of my favorite bronzers for years has been NARS Bronzing Powder. I purchase the Blush/Bronzer Duo which includes one of my favorite blushes as well – Orgasm/ Laguna which is a peachy-pink shimmer/ sheer light brown shimmer. Yes, when it comes to NARS and their iconic color palettes their color names are always, what can I say? Creative. NARS will always be a staple in my beauty bag, but for 2015 and I am adding Filmstar Bronze and Glow by Charlotte Tilbury as an alternative. I love this new duo for bronzing/sculpting and highlighting. The highlighter is the most gorgeous champagne color which is flattering on all skin tones. The sculpting/bronzing formula is a notch above a satin finish – it’s not flat or matte and really is not sparkly either. It makes your cheekbones look multi-dimensional with the radiance it gives off. The color and tone of the bronzer is also a bit more taupe, so it’s perfect for contouring and has just enough pearl/bronze finish. I even use it on my lids. It starts the eye shadow canvas of my eyes. It can be worn alone so it provides a natural look for day wear or with added color can enhance your eyes for night time wear.
So, now that you have rung in the new year and cleaned and discarded things in your life that don’t need to be there… do the same for your makeup bag and be ready for an exciting year of new products and colors ahead. I cannot wait!
