Skincare With a Glass of Vino

Having just returned from another annual trip to Napa Valley – the world of wine and wine baths or vinotheraphy – I must say, I would rather enjoy a lavender bubble bath with a beautiful Pinot Noir and spend my $100 on skincare products.  Anyone who knows me will tell you I am passionate about skincare and I would have said the same goes for wine and the study of it. But, on this trip I learned that there are those who know that wine offers benefits, and not just from drinking it. Vinotherapy or bathing with red wine is reputed to soften skin, boost circulation and treat cellulite. Wine contains tartaric acid, an alpha hydroxyl agent, which helps to exfoliate the skin, however, the effects are not instant and it takes a number of bottles to get that effect. There are various methods of vinotherapy, i.e. applying wine externally as skin care treatments includes wraps, massages and facials.   Say what you will about the Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire who bathes in wine… but he does understand the benefits and of course has the income to enjoy wine in a glass and in tub filled with it!

I am a huge fan of Dr. Dennis Gross skincare products.  He provides some of the best skincare out there and for me my day starts with his All in One Facial Cleanser. This cleaner takes all the makeup off my face (including waterproof mascara), it leaves my skin flawless, my pores reduced and it is just the perfect one step face wash. This wash is very gentle as well potent. Also, it leaves no residue and my skin feels soft, and bright.

Hypoallergenic for even the most sensitive skin types, this soothing formula is for anyone seeking a daily toning cleanser that removes impurities while leaving skin soft, hydrated, clean, and soothed but never dry. It keeps my pores clean and unclogged, and it is perfect for contact lens wearers.  I use it with my Clarisonic as well.  If you have sensitive skin you might want to wash with it first and then go over your face with your Clarisonic to give it a quick finish.

Special note… for those of you that prefer a foam cleanser, Dr. Gross also offers this cleanser in foam as well, without the toner/makeup remover strength.  For me, both work equally as well.  Your face will feel clean, refreshed and somewhat firmer after use.

So pour your favorite vino into a glass and toast your fabulous skin and yourself  for all you do to keep it healthy and glowing. Then leave the wine bath to someone who has the income to indulge in it – daily!
