Tan Yourself Your Way

Looking at the thermometer it’s a warm, toasty, 100 degrees here in Texas.  I love summer!  A good friend just returned from vacationing at some fabulous beach in the Caribbean and I was able to view some pictures of  the beautiful scenery the area has to offer.  Oh! how I wish I could have been there too, relaxing on those white sand beaches with a big ol’ red straw hat and a cool drink in my hand!  We can’t all visit the beaches this summer. (Oh, did I mention I went to San Diego last month and put my toe in 64 degree Pacific waves??) However,  there are little things we can do to get the ‘beach glow’ and keep our skin protected and safe from the damages of harsh sunlight and itsUV rays that age our skin so dramatically.

One of my daughters is a fan of Jergen’s Natural Glow, 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer, in Medium to Tan.  She uses it all over her body and faithfully every night on her legs.  I have tried it, as well, and must say it really does work in three days!  There is also a lighter version of this moisturizer, too, available in fair to medium.

Or, you might like the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Daily Glow Moisture that she uses on her face.  This product produces a natural ‘glow’ in about 1 to 3 hours.  It’s her daily moisturizer so her face has a natural tan she can maintain all summer.

For me, I am a big fan of the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pads for the body and face.  The pads are the only exfoliating and anti-aging self-tanner with active Vitamin D that firms your skin, too.  Nice, right?  After application I will normally see the ‘tan’ develop about two hours.

Now, if you get the call for an event or dinner and you need to have an instant ‘glow’ my go-to is St. Tropez.  I have used this product as an at home self-tanner and in its professional form as an instant glow airbrush aan which is offered at Nordstrom in their spa.  There is  no yellow undertones with this product – only bronze to brown. I find it lasts about 5-7 days and then it is pretty much gone.  The key to keeping your tan ‘fresh’ for as long as possible with these products is your skin must be moisturized daily. (That’s a given for our whole body, is it not?)

Now, perhaps you want to just use makeup to change your coloring for the day. Using a slightly darker foundation will add a “sun kissed” look when coupled with bronzing powder and lighter blush.  Be sure and lighten your lipstick, too.  This before and after picture might give you a visual of what just changing your foundation to a darker shade can do.  Here is an example of darker foundation, heavier on eye makeup and, of course, lighter lipstick and blush.  When the day is over, I just wash the ‘tan’ down the drain and start over the next morning.

If you love the sun, but like me, not what it can do to your skin, try one of these suggestions and finish these hot summer months looking like you have spent time on the beach – when actually you have been shopping some of those fantastic sales that started after the 4th of July.  It’s the season to  GLOW my friends… make sure it’s inside and out!
