Shed Some Tears and Smile

Did you know that science estimates that it takes between 1000 and 200,000 frowns make a wrinkle?  This is one of the reasons why I leave a smile quote at the end of each post for you here on Wrinkle Me Not – I want you to remember to S.M.I.L.E.  It like that old song, “Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella On a Rainy Day.”  And one thing is certain – we all have those raining days.

In a recent sermon my pastor discussed the benefit of tears. Did you know that studies show that the chemical composition of the tears that lubricate our eyes and the tears that come from our emotions are different? Apparently the tears that come from our emotions are made up of protein based hormones – one of them is a natural pain killer which is why we typically feel relief after we cry! Tears actually remove toxins from our body that build up courtesy of stress, too. They are like a natural therapy or massage session, but they cost a whole lot less! Tears can also elevate our moods.  The act of crying can remove anxiety, nervousness, irritability, fatigue, aggression, emotional disturbance and the rest of the feelings that live inside of us.  And! We all know that tears hydrate the skin around our eyes better than any product on the market.

But what if you need some hydration around your eyes and you can’t find one favorite cry movie on the TV this weekend?  My go to is Dr. Dennis Gross Hydra Pure Firming Eye Cream.  I keep mine in the fridge so when I apply it, not only does it hydrate but the cooling effect feels fabulous on my skin. Product labeling states it contains powerful ingredients that stimulate collagen AND prevents collagen breakdown.  For me I can say you will see an immediate lifting effect around the eye area sustained with continued use.

This is one of those products my beauty bag is never without.  The added bonus for my eyes is a late night viewing of Love Story, Pretty Woman, or Ghost. My all time Cry Movies!  Couple those with nice Cab from Napa along with some dark chocolate and I can make sure my eyes are totally hydrated by morning!

The most beautiful smile is one that struggles through tears. – Unknown

  2. I did know that about tears. It is one of the things that I have shared with men over the years to enable them to cry without embarrassment. If you don’t shed those tears, you will stew in your own juices. Good blog.
