I Am Not The Lone Ranger

When I was a little girl I loved to play dress up and do some role playing.  As I got into my young teenage years my sister, Jill, would join me with hairbrush in hand like we were on stage singing with a rock band.  We still laugh about that occasionally over our weekly coffees.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited

to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world,

and all there ever will be to know and understand.” Albert Einstein

When children participate in role playing, they naturally become someone or something else. role playing stimulates their imagination and “enhances their social development, by encouraging friendship through mutual cooperation, listening and turn taking”. Therefore, role play is a really vital activity for our children.

I was thinking about this recently since I have added a sleep mask to my bedtime routine.  Do I think I am the Lone Ranger? I would emphatically say ‘no’ to that question.  And, so far, I have not dreamed of riding my horse alongside him or Tonto either. But! there is always tomorrow night!

My mask is actually a copper-infused sleep mask that covers eyes with advanced care to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as you sleep Iluminage.

This sleep mask covers your delicate eyes during sleeping hours with advanced care to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Beyond blocking all visual stimuli to quiet your mind and senses, this silky, soft, smart textile is carefully embedded with copper oxide technology, derived from a well-known essential mineral. This technology is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles for smoother, younger-looking skin. Placing it on your eye area following your night time treatment routines is also a key.

I must say I absolutely love this mask. It’s so soft and silky that it really does help me fall asleep sooner. I do not know if the copper actually assists with anti aging, but I do know as far as sleep goes, this mask is great!

High School Friendships

Question. How many of you attend an occasional get together with friends from high school?

I must say that I am blessed, truly blessed, with an abundance of friends and many of them are from high school.  We get together often for lunches, dinners, and celebrations of birthdays. Or just because.

My graduation class had over 1000 people in it.  So! I must also admit though I didn’t know everyone in my class, with the many gatherings we have had over the years plus the addition of social media I have met many more.   Some of these friends are lifelong friends while others are what I call “new” old friends, but each are very special to me.

We have had several gatherings over the last two weeks because one of our classmates is visiting from California. So there has been lots of activities – lunches, dinners and late nights. It’s been a whirlwind for many of us.

And then a phone call.  One of my friends was in a dilemma. Her face was breaking out with a rash of some kind with the unknown culprit most likely being late nights, working days, and extra fun.  So I dug through my Beauty Bag and put my ‘healing hands’ on Patchology’s SmartMud No Mess Detox Masque.

It was a true healer!

This masque is a detoxifying mud sheet masque that purifies your skin without leaving any pore-clogging (or sink-clogging) debris behind. It minimizes skin’s impurities and maximizes your glow game. It will also tighten your pores so they are less visible for smoother, healthy-looking skin.

This masque comes in two pieces (one for upper face and one for lower) and can be used once a week or as often as needed.  Just unfold both sections of the masque; Remove the white backing and place the mud mask over face. Once the masque is removed you see nothing but healthy, youthful glowing skin. It’s a total toxin eliminator for sure.

I saw her the following day at another dinner and she was excited to show off her beautiful skin. The rash was gone and she was ready for another night of friendship!

No Needles, Please

Let me be clear. I am NOT a fan of needles.  Not at all!  Yes, I know we all have to deal with the occasional prick from time to time, but I offer my arm only when I have to and nothing more than that.

So, recently I was at Judy Gail’s, my amazing esthetician’s salon in Dallas for my monthly facial.  During the treatment she asked me if I would be her ‘guinea pig’ for about 4 weeks to test a new service she was interested in offering to her clients.  The first question out of my mouth – “are there needles involved?”  She laughed heartily.

The service? Needle-Free Mesotherapy Infusion.  I mean really? Is that a mouthful or what?  So with the word ‘needle-free’ I began to listened.  Eagerly.

Infusion mesotherapy is a pain-free and a needle-free alternative to traditional mesotherapy which provides safe and effective non-invasive trans-dermal delivery of therapeutic solutions. Unlike a serum that nourishes the outer layers of your skin; the mesotherapy infusion goes deeper and nourishes your skin not only from the outside, but also from the inside by opening up a microscopic channel in your skin to achieve the penetration needed to get beneath the outer layers. It’s be around since the 1950’s which it actually involved  – needles!

I actually bring my tried and true skincare products (which I know work well with my skincare regimen) with me and Judy covers my face with the mixture of all products for the treatment.  Note: You must remove all metal jewelry so the only metal left is in my teeth. You hold a metal pole to ‘ground’ you and the process begins. Yes, you do feel a ‘zap’ in your teeth throughout the treatment but it is quite bearable. Trust me on this!

I definitely saw visible results after my second treatment, but you will need 4-6 treatments spaced two weeks apart for the full effect.  Following  that it is recommended to begin maintenance treatments every 6-8 weeks. By the way, at the end of the 6th treatment I noticed my skin had a glow and even better my little sister, Jill, commented at our lunch hours later my skin looked smoother as well.

Love sisters!

Beauty Not Diet Resolutions

February is now.  Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow in the land of Pennsylvania and declared  we will have 6 more weeks of winter.  Of course ‘winter’ is different in many different states.  If you are in Napa California it means rain.  And lots of it.  If you are in New York or Philadelphia it means snow.  And again, lots of it.  If you are in New Orleans it means turbulent weather this week.  And if you are in Dallas.  It’s means cookouts and picnics – until the next cold front comes through.  Ahhhh… the roller coaster ride of Texas –  called weather. Some months we experience 2-3 seasons all in a 48-hour period.

My resolutions this year were to have lunch with friends I saw too little in 2016.  I love my Friend Lunches as know you do.  So to date, I’ve had four very special lunches – which may be why I haven’t lost an ounce of weight this year.  I mean really?  Can you make a resolution to dine with friends and also make a resolution to loose 10 pounds?  Not really. So my resolutions this year were not Diet related but all about Beauty.

Mask.  There are so many out there.  Whether it’s blue, clear, washable or peelable it’s fun to try different masks several times each month.  Some hydrate.  Some add a glow.  Some exfoliate.  But they all make your skin feel fantastic when removed. And your skin looks healthy and fabulous!

Moisturize.  I cannot emphasize this one enough.  Whether you live in rain, snow or sun you need to add moisturizer to you regimen. Every day.  Morning and night.  Repeat – twice a day.  I have a long time friend who told me last year she wanted her skin to look like mine.  My suggestion was to start moisturizing.  I saw her two weeks ago and she uttered those same words.  So, I asked her what moisturizing regimen she was using.  “I moisturize each month” usually on the first day so I can remember.  If I could use that emoji with eyes wide open and hair standing up right here you would have seen my face at that comment! Moisturize EVERY day… twice! Your skin will love it and you will too

Water/Hair.  Jimmy, my hair stylist and color specialist for 20 years, knows when I sit down in his chair if I have been faithful in my consumption of water. Hydration.  It’s important to our skin AND our hair so remember to keep the H20 and your favorite glass nearby and drink. Drink throughout the day and evening too. It’s great for your body and your hair.

And finally SLEEP.  The recommended hours of sleep is eight,  but if you are like me, that just doesn’t happen… unless I am sick.  So I shoot for seven, and plan for 6.  Some nights I am solving all the world’s problems in my head, so I get something like 4-5 hours, but I’m trying! See?  I am a work in progress, too.

Is There A Wrinkle Fairy?

So, I had a MRI today.  Ok, you say… and? Well here’s what happened… I walked into the ‘tunnel room’ and the tech looks at me and then may chart and then back at me again and shows me the chart.  “Is this you? ” I chuckle and said “yes”.  He then says “well looking at your birthdate I thought I would see a lady with lots of wrinkles.”  THAT alone made me laugh so hard.  Really?  As we age some think we are expected to have a face full of wrinkles?  Not!  So, after we had a good laugh, I climbed into the chamber and actually fell asleep! (Of course I had to plug my blog Wrinkle Me Not)

We go through our 30’s and 40’s and get a few wrinkles, but they are the cute kind around your eyes… and then you hit your 50’s and overnight they appear like the wrinkle fairy zaps your in your sleep!  Don’t fear the Wrinkle Fairy, my friends.  Serums and creams are plentiful out there as we all know and there are some that work for each of us.  Now, what works for crow’s feet or dark circles may not work for the bags under your eyes, but there are serums/creams that will.  You just have to talk with those wonderful beauty advisors and try different products.  They are happy to provide samples for you to try until you find exactly what you need, too.

We are now into Winter as we all know.  Sure, here in Texas we have had some spring-like days, but the dry harsh winds have been here and will return.  That’s why winter facials are soooo important.  That is actually why the MRI tech noticed my skin today I do believe.  I applied my Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask to my face last night after my bath.  You can leave it on for 10-30 minutes and I always opt for the longest time.  Besides my Dallas Cowboys were playing so in addition to my blue jersey I was also sporting a blue face.  I looked just like some of those fans in the stands, if I do say so myself.  But!  When I peeled my mask off… I had smooth well hydrated skin that will last for several days.

This two-step gel which your mix with loose powder improves the appearance of fine lines and pores, revives dull, dry, and dehydrated skin, and smooths the appearance of uneven skintone and texture for skin that looks firm, supple, and dewy. The system is designed to create an occlusive barrier, loaded with humectants to seal in hydration, while an algae and calcium complex draws heat to cool and calm the skin. Medical grade marine algae, harvested from arctic Norwegian seas, and deeply hydrating hyaluronic acid work to instantly create the appearance of plumper skin and seal in moisture for lasting hydration.

Be good to your skin during these cold, dry windy winter months no matter where you live. You never know who will notice and it might surprise you who does!

My Wish List

Have you started making your Wish List for Santa, yet?  There are so many products on the market these days that I want, I want… but price points can make it a WISH at times for me instead of a NEED.  Besides this is the season to give, so I make a Wish List and refer to it from time to time. And! when I have that “all about me moment’ I splurge on something on my Wish list. And, when I attend beauty events that list becomes even longer of products I want to try.  Trend shows do that to me as well.

One ‘wish/wants’ at the top of my list a few years ago was my Sonic Makeup Brush by Michael Todd.  The brush is designed for any facial sculpting, highlighting or even applying your makeup.  The results are ahhhmazing.  You can place a couple of drops of your foundation onto the brush or your face and begin your application over your entire face.  And!  I use the brush to also apply my liquid bronzer to add a touch of glow to my face – after all it is the holiday season, right?  Actually you know me… I love the look of the glow all year long!

Another favorite of mine this year is what everyone calls “the BLUE mask” by Dr. Dennis Gross.  Talk about hydration!  You will love the coolness of the mask.  And! you will love the look of your skin after you remove it. This mask was developed to deeply hydrate, cool, and visibly plump the skin.  It’s a two-step process like many of his products and what can I say?  Blue goes with everything… especially your pj’s and a cup of hot cocoa on these cold winter nights. Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask – it’s a must for your list and mine!

Another favorite from this year is the company, Patchology!  They have masks for your face, your eyes, your feet and your lips.  These products are amazing and they work instantly!  If you order from their site you get samples of their other products, too.  Try them all.  You won’t be disappointed.

Now, you can thank me as you sit in front of the fireplace and toast me and your beautiful glowing skin – Walt Sierra Mar Pinot Noir, please.  And maybe a bite of chocolate?

To Mist Or Not… Is That A Question?

Ahhhh Summertime and living is hectic…wait! It’s not summer, it’s time for Ghosts, Goblins, Turkey and even Christmas shopping is on the horizon.  But alas, this is Texas and the temps are stays steady in the upper 80’s and causing a delay in my wine shipments from Napa.  So what’s a girl to do?  One way to keep cool, calm, collected and  as always radiant is with Dr Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Perfect Skin Set & Refresh Mist.  Another ‘newbie’ in my Beauty Bag post Fall Trend Show is this favorite of mine.  In fact, I love it so much I bought two – one for my dressing area and another for my purse.

This antioxidant-rich treatment and setting mist works triple duty to boost your natural radiance and healthy-looking complexion. From morning to night, the spray protects, hydrates, and refreshes my skin, so our makeup looks better on us.  I use it before, as well as after makeup application as it ‘sets’ my look for the day.  It’s a supercharged refreshing mist that hydrates and protects your skin throughout the day, too. Ask some of my friends at work after I delivered a refreshing spray on each one a few weeks ago.  They commented on how refreshed their skin felt and the smell is so nice. With each mist, it penetrates makeup to get into your skin, delivering a  this doctor’s dose of antioxidants to shield you from environmental damage and revive stressed skin with  a potent form of Vitamin C. Without the sun!

Just hold the bottle approximately 8-10 inches from your face. Mist 2-3 times to treat skin and set your makeup. And! apply it throughout the day as needed to refresh and hydrate your skin.  Use it again at night to set and refresh your makeup before going out, which will prevent that  5PM makeup meltdown no matter where you live.

I absolutely love this mist… but I would love to enjoy a nice cool evening with a glass of my wine, too. Maybe it will arrive by next month….

TODAY… I will make everyone smile. – Pintrest
