Highlight Your Glow

If you have been reading Wrinkle Me Not for a year or more you KNOW how I love the ‘glow’ year round, but especially once the season changes from winter to spring.  If you are in the northeast reading this blog you probably think I am crazy.  I truly apologize.  I know the weather over the last month or two has been cold, snowy and just plain dreadful.  But, here in Texas today, we are going to top 88 degrees.  You see, we don’t go from winter to spring here – we jump right into summer!  Last weekend we still had the heater on at night, but today its a/c and plenty of it.  The golf courses are busy and so are the plant centers.  I have worked all morning on planting flowers and cleaning up the beds.  But I regress…

Yes, I love the glow!  I was at Nordstrom yesterday during Triple Poin weekend picking up my Glow pads from DDG Skincare, but also got some beautiful highlighters  – one in a compact by Anastasia and one by Hourglass, which is a cream.

Vanish Flash by Hourglass is a highlight stick.  It goes on creamy so you can spread it on your cheeks, forehead and nose.  It comes in 5 shades – Champagne, Pink, Gold, Rose Gold and Bronze.  I picked up Champagne and Pink!

And! I also got the Amrezy Highlighter from Anastasia which I must sayI love, my friends. The limited edition highlighter is an illuminating powder that achieves the perfect glow. With the feel of second-skin, this ultra-smooth formula delivers a radiant finish and reflects a light, brilliant gold.

But let me say this.  If you have dry skin the cream is great and its staying powder is the best.  I think once summer gets here (and that may be tomorrow here) and it’s in the 90’s to 100, I will probably skip the cream highlighter and go with the staying power of the powder.  Though I must say I love the versatility of both products.

Of course, you still need to add the glow factor! Always Girls!

It’s Beginning to Look Like the Holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go…and indeed it is!

So, last Sunday I attended the Nordstrom Holiday party by invitation only and what an event it was.  My plus one was my sweet hubby who really enjoyed all the food (and there was plenty of it) along with all  the festivities.  I, on the other hand, filled my shopping bag several times over with gifts for my girls and I must admit a few bags with several of my favorites.

You know how I love the ‘glow’ – year round, but especially during the holidays, right? Well, there is something for every ‘glow girl’ this year!

Charlotte Tilbury has the amazing Wonder Glow cream which she calls ‘instant soft-focus beauty flash’.  This is a primer girlfriends, but it adds a subtle glow to your foundation and has a beautiful finish.

Anastasia Beverly Hills has a Glow Kit as well.  This glow kit comes with four beautiful metallic powder highlighters for intense luminosity. These powders are so much fun to work with. Just layer the highly blendable shades together or wear them separately on the eyes and body for a total radiant look.

My favorite eye shadow kit this year is by Urban Decay – Naked Pallet for smoky eyes.  I love the colors and these too are so blendable for either day or night.  By the way I use youtube instruction videos to create different looks with this pallet and to help me not look ‘over’ done for work.  Love. It!

And, or course my ‘go to’ … Dr. Dennis Gross Glow Pads.  I have used these pads for over five years and they are always a staple on my shelf.  Yes, I picked up more at the holiday party, because they are the best ‘pick me up’ when it comes to needing a new glow.

Whatever ways you decide celebrate the holidays with a glow whether it is from the outside or from the inside remember to always finish it with a smile!

Fall Trend Show 2016

Fall Trend Show 2016 is in the books as they say and what fun Karen and I had all day on Saturday.  And when I say ALL DAY – I mean it!  Starting at 7:30AM we joined 500 other beauty divas for a Runway Show at Nordstrom North Park that just gets better and better each year.  Now I must say, gone are the pastries and treats for breakfast as in year’s past when you arrive.  The crowd is so much larger these days, so we are given boxed morning treats with water and coffee to keep us going and going as we shop, shop, shop.

After a two-hour informative program which featured reps from some of the world’s favorite beauty products, we were dismissed to the store for sessions and shopping. Arriving there there are rows and rows of makeup chairs lined up and within moments filled with show attendees that would go on throughout the day.

Karen and I visited with John and Enrique at Dr. Dennis Gross for a chemical peel and facial.  Got some amazing products there I will blog about soon.  After that session which lasted about an hour, we went on to Guerlain where Meredith used her magical brushes as she provided a makeover for both of us.  I mean really, two friends sans makeup can only have real fun at a make-up counter, right? After that session Karen went to Dry Bar for her new hairstyle and I met Veronica with Anastasia for my brows.  Samples! OMGoodness.    They were everywhere!  I have so much to share with you over the fall season.  I don’t have enough room to write all of it here.

But!  If you are out shopping this week I want share with you this:  THE color this season is Maroon/Wine. So grab something in that color to update your fall wardrobe. Today!

Oh! And best photo from the show?  Look at these amazing shoes! Yes, this spokesperson had it all… the season’s color, great hair and makeup AND THOSE shoes!

Grow Brows!

Summertime … and the living is easy.  Ahhh…Right?  Having just returned from my annual wine trip to Napa Valley, I must admit it was warmer in California than it was when I boarded the plane in Texas.  In fact, it was downright hot as one day the temp tipped at 100 degrees after starting the morning at 54!  High temps don’t pair with wine I must add.  Cheese and chocolate are oh, so much better.

But! In between tastings I did remembered something I want to share with you.  When I was discussing Anastasia of Beverly Hills at the Trend Show there was one other product I didn’t want to review until I could see results.  And now, one week later I am twirling. The Anastasia Brow Enhancing Serum does just what it says it will do.  Grow brows!

Remember our eyebrows are our ‘face framers’.  If we don’t set them off when we apply our makeup our face is frameless and that’s not good.  This serum is formulated for encouraging the growth of healthier, fuller-looking brows.  Here’s the scoop:

It contains  Pentapeptide (similar to Biotin) which  is rich in botanical extracts and vitamins to help strengthen and condition skin and brow hair. With regular, twice-daily use, ( I do morning and night) this product helps you to achieve fuller, longer, and more youthful-looking brows with less breakage.  You see a thicker fuller brow in 6-8 weeks.  I’m only at 3 weeks but I do have very fine hairs coming in places that I have not seen hair grow in years from over plucking. And!  The beauty advisor told us that once these hairs start to grow they don’t stop even if use is discontinued like previous products in this area have done.

So, I’m waiting… and watching, and smiling!

Raise Your Eyebrow

m_53953e644c47c005980232ec Anastasia of Beverly Hills had a huge presence at the Trend Show.  Ask those of us that stood in a line which snaked around the mall area at one point for those of us that wanted our eyebrows seen by an expert.  I had my makeup done afterwards and was told by the makeup artist “I won’t touch your eyebrows – they look fantastic!”

I smiled.

I fell in love with two amazing products – the Highlighting Duo Pencil along with the Dipbrow Pomade.  First of all I must say, I have never been good at doing my eyebrows with those pencils.  My eyebrows look like I have ‘drawn’ a long line and have tried to copy those of my grandma.  But! With the Dipbrow Pomade I can take a very thin over tweezed eyebrow – mine – and make it look fantastic.

This is a smudge-free, waterproof pomade formula that performs as an all-in-one brow product. This creamy product glides on skin and hair smoothly to create clean, defined brows. It works as a brow primer and provides color, sculpture, and shading. It is ideal for oily skin and in humid climates like my hometown.

Now, the Highlighting Duo Pencil is one of my favorite products in my beauty bag. It is a double-sided pencil that highlights and defines brows—and makes arches pop! Use the Highlighting Duo Pencil’s shimmery end to illuminate brow bones, and the matte end to softly define. They can be worn separate or together – I use mine together! You put this right under your brows and blend. That’s it. If you have a simple makeup routine, this makes you look just a little more polished since it allows your brows to appear freshly groomed. I also like that it’s a highlighter without being sparkly. It makes your eyes stand out and provides a beautiful finish.

Use these two products then raise that eyebrow and bat your lashes.  You are ready to make someone smile!

Forecast: Color!

My husband was a meteorologist while he was in the Navy.  So these days he’s the ‘go to guy’ when it comes to forecasting the weather.  But! when it comes to beauty forecasts, I am the one that gets excited about what’s coming.  Not him.

Now that the first of several local beauty events are now history, I can tell you that the 2016 Beauty Forecast shows Color:  And lots of it!  Even if you prefer shades of grey / soft nudes for your daily look… surprise yourself and those around you this year and add a pop of red lipstick to brighten your look.

Smashbox is always a great go-to when it comes to lipstick.  The Be Legendary line is available in matte and cream and offers some amazing color choices with staying power.  I recently purchased LA Sunset for myself and Legendary for my daughter and I must admit I got another one for every day in Cognac..

One of my favorite products from last week’s event is from Guerlain. My amazing Beauty Advisor, Meredith Meyer, showed me a beautiful Terracotta Palette from Guerlain which is perfect for contouring – which is also popular again this year.  And it is fun to use!  This is a limited edition contouring palette made up of 2 contouring shades and 2 highlighting shades that can be used for the face and eyes. (Trivia:  Did you know Guerlain launched the world’s first bronzer in 1984 and these bronzers are meant to mix and match to suit our mood?) I have several but knowing this – I may need a few more!

Also in Beauty Trends for this year is – the eyebrow.  I love a beautiful eyebrow.  It frames your face, but I must admit when I was just dabbling into makeup years ago it was one of those things I ignored on my face.  Don’t do it, girlfriends!  They can totally add to your look and they are easy to do.  Draw a clean line under your brow and repeat on the top of your brow. Fill in your brow lightly and then I usually brush through to get rid of any excess product. Use a lighter concealer to sharpen the finish and blend with your finger.  That’s it!  NARS and Anastasia Beverly Hills both offer great eyebrow pencils in a variety of colors so you can always get a perfect match.

Next week I am excited to again visit with Meredith and a National Rep for Guerlain to try more new products…

Tis the season… for color!

The Power of a Raised Eyebrow

I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. If it wasn’t the fourth such event in Dallas in the same number of weeks, it might have brought a contented sigh with a smile as I looked forward to a relaxing day by the fire with a hot mug of cocoa. But! I had plans to meet my high school friends for lunch at an opening of a newly relocated favorite restaurant and once again plans were put on hold.

One of those friends, Barbara, is as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside. I have been known to say “I want to be Barbara when I grow up.” No kidding. I am sure you have a few friends like that, too. Barbara just knows how to wear clothes, her skin and makeup are always beautiful and coupled with the warmth of her smile that comes from within, she is a group favorite.

Recently I asked Barbara to share a couple of her favorite products with me so I could check them out. For one, she is a huge fan of Revlon’s Color Stay Lipstick… number 40 is her preferred color and it looks absolutely fantastic on her. She touts it does not come off after eating or drinking and it can and does last all day for her. Another favorite is Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Anastasia has been the Queen of brows for years. She is in high demand for her brow technique with salons located in Beverly Hills and Brentwood. Over the years I have on occasion seen her locally at Nordstrom in North Park Dallas at beauty events.

Makeup artists consider eyebrows and eyebrow shaping one of the most important facial features. So at Barbara’s suggestion I stopped by the Anastasia counter last month for a tutorial on eyebrow shaping and fell in love with these products, too. Brow Wiz has become a favorite for me like it has for Barbara. The application tip of the wand is very fine – like a mechanical pencil – and it is so easy to fill in those missing hairs we all have and then add a few more for a beautiful brow. It is available in seven different shades so it is possible to match your brow color easily for a very natural look. Remember, to do short quick strokes. It’s the key to perfect application. Then fill in what’s missing and then a few more. Remember, too, that your brows are not twins. They are just sisters. Follow the path on each one that you have been given since birth and don’t draw one you have seen in a magazine. Only then will your face appear natural and well defined.

As you know, you can never underestimate the power of an eyebrow! Especially a raised one!
