It’s Beginning to Look Like the Holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go…and indeed it is!

So, last Sunday I attended the Nordstrom Holiday party by invitation only and what an event it was.  My plus one was my sweet hubby who really enjoyed all the food (and there was plenty of it) along with all  the festivities.  I, on the other hand, filled my shopping bag several times over with gifts for my girls and I must admit a few bags with several of my favorites.

You know how I love the ‘glow’ – year round, but especially during the holidays, right? Well, there is something for every ‘glow girl’ this year!

Charlotte Tilbury has the amazing Wonder Glow cream which she calls ‘instant soft-focus beauty flash’.  This is a primer girlfriends, but it adds a subtle glow to your foundation and has a beautiful finish.

Anastasia Beverly Hills has a Glow Kit as well.  This glow kit comes with four beautiful metallic powder highlighters for intense luminosity. These powders are so much fun to work with. Just layer the highly blendable shades together or wear them separately on the eyes and body for a total radiant look.

My favorite eye shadow kit this year is by Urban Decay – Naked Pallet for smoky eyes.  I love the colors and these too are so blendable for either day or night.  By the way I use youtube instruction videos to create different looks with this pallet and to help me not look ‘over’ done for work.  Love. It!

And, or course my ‘go to’ … Dr. Dennis Gross Glow Pads.  I have used these pads for over five years and they are always a staple on my shelf.  Yes, I picked up more at the holiday party, because they are the best ‘pick me up’ when it comes to needing a new glow.

Whatever ways you decide celebrate the holidays with a glow whether it is from the outside or from the inside remember to always finish it with a smile!

Mesmerising Eyes

Summertime…. And the livin’ is easy!

Things are a little slower and more laid back for a few short months each year and if you are in the South the heat is on just like it is every year. Ahhh Summertime.

I shop a little different, too, during the summertime. I stroll through the beauty aisles, talk at length to beauty consultants and browse through the newest products with much less haste than I do in the spring with it’s new line up for the year or the fall when the products are geared more toward glamour and holiday parties.

The latest addition to my Beauty Bag is a eye shadow duo that I just love and the effects are powerful for sure.  Charlotte Tilbury has created  her Chameleon Colour Morphing Eyeshadow Pencils stating the “The power to mesmerise is in your eyes” in her branding.

These pencils instantly create a sultry, smoky eye with just the stroke of your hand. They are infused with synthetic sapphire which enhance your natural eye color with clever lighting tricks.  And!  They are so easy to apply and I find they last throughout the day.  Even in the summertime! Just cover your eye and smudge on the top lid and then glide the same color underneath the eye, too. This formula dries quickly, I must add, as product labeling states it sets after 30 seconds. You literally have to wash it off your fingers after application.  No wiping here.

I think wearing makeup gives each of us confidence and makes us feel fabulous.  Agree? So, glam up those eyes and get ready to make a statement, girlfriend! These mesmerising Chameleon Colour Morphing Eyeshadow Pencils from Charlotte Tilbury provide the perfect eye in the summertime… or any time.

Swish & Pop!

Well… instead of earrings Santa brought me a new car this year.  So, what does a new car have to do with a skincare/makeup blog you ask?  Just one thing.  Since I am not ready to endure the ‘ouch’ of the first ‘ding’ yet, I decided to park in a new lot last week at the mall… and walked right into an instructional makeup session at Nordstrom.  I so love learning new techniques!  They are not only informative, but fun!

This one just happened to be led by Charlotte Tilbury’s group featuring her Cheek to Chic Pop Blush.  Since it was a New Year’s Eve afternoon and I had party plans with high school friends that night, I opted for ‘Bombshel’ for my nighttime look!  It was an over-the-top image for me, but again, such fun as I watched the make-up artist create a new ‘me’.  A couple of pictures later (I have even used one on Facebook) will help me remember the look and the way in which it was achieved.  I encourage you  to always take several pictures when you get your make-up done by a professional – even one with your eyes closed too, so you can create the look again.

Swish & Pop Blush reminds me of a Life Saver. The case is circular with one main color around the outside of the circle and the center holds a strong color for your ‘pop’.   This blush features a different texture than other blushes on the market today.  It is smooth, and has great pigment.  It feels like a finely milled pressed powder with a finish that translates to translucency and luminosity.  Beautiful! Cheek to Chic blushes come with instructions on how to use the two-toned compact by the Swish & Pop method of application. One swirl in the compact and the rest is magically done for you.  It looks good, it feels good and it stays put once it is applied – mine lasted for over eight hours or should I say, ‘until the stroke of midnight’.

Yes, it was a Cinderella evening for me… I attended the ‘ball’ with over 50 friends and shortly after midnight I washed away the ‘glamour look’ with only a picture for reference (my version of a glass slipper).  I just might want to play fairy godmother for myself again in the future!

Out With the Old…

It’s a New Year and time to restock my beauty bag.  It’s kind of like “out with the old” and making room for the new. We all do it in one way or another, don’t we?  Clean. Discard. Donate.

Looking though my bag…I see mascara. If it was purchased 6 months ago… throw it away!  There is nothing worse than getting a ‘pink eye’ or a sore eyelid that tainted mascara can cause.  Besides, you purchased new tubes at the Mascara Event in November didn’t you?  Toss it!  Do the same with your powder, if it’s a year old. Pencils and lipsticks can stay around longer, but you might use the sharpener on a pencil if it hasn’t been used in few months and clean the top layer off with a shave.

This is a good time for you to wash your makeup application brushes, too.  You can use one of the many cleaning agents available for brushes through retail markets or you can fill a large glass with shampoo and very hot water and let them soak for several hours.  Thoroughly rinse each one and let them air dry throughout the day or night, so they will be fresh and ready for you the next day.

One of my favorite bronzers for years has been NARS Bronzing Powder.  I purchase the Blush/Bronzer Duo which includes one of my favorite blushes as well – Orgasm/ Laguna which is a peachy-pink shimmer/ sheer light brown shimmer.  Yes, when it comes to NARS and their iconic color palettes their color names are always, what can I say?  Creative.   NARS will always be a staple in my beauty bag, but for 2015 and I am adding Filmstar Bronze and Glow by Charlotte Tilbury as an alternative.   I love this new duo for bronzing/sculpting and highlighting. The highlighter is the most gorgeous champagne color which is flattering on all skin tones. The sculpting/bronzing formula is a notch above a satin finish – it’s not flat or matte and really is not sparkly either.  It makes your cheekbones look multi-dimensional with the radiance it gives off. The color and tone of the bronzer is also a bit more taupe, so it’s perfect for contouring and has just enough pearl/bronze finish.  I even use it on my lids.  It starts the eye shadow canvas of my eyes.  It can be worn alone so it provides a natural look for day wear or with added color can enhance your eyes for night time wear.

So, now that you have rung in the new year and cleaned and discarded things in your life that don’t need to be there… do the same for your makeup bag and be ready for an exciting year of new products and colors ahead. I cannot wait!

Santa Baby… Wishing!

Have you started making your Wish List for Santa, yet?  There are so many products on the market these days that I want, I want… but price points make it a WISH at times for me instead of a NEED.  Besides this is the season to give, so I make a Wish List and refer to it from time to time. And! when I have that “all about me moment’ I splurge on something on my Wish list.

Two ‘wish/wants’ at the top of my list are a new product and a brush.  Yes, that’s right a brush.  But not just any brush…it’s the new Charlotte Tilbury Powder & Sculpt Brush.  With a price point of $49, I just haven’t made the purchase yet.  But I will.  I have seen it demonstrated on three different occasions and I just know that I could look like the professional model with that gorgeous skin and air brushed look… if I just had that brush!  The brush is designed for any facial sculpting or highlighting to help you achieve an ideal facial framework. And, the results on the models I have seen are amazing.  The expertly handcrafted brush features a head handmade into the perfect shape by a master brush-maker in Europe. Its rose-gold and night-crimson colors lend signature touches while a sustainable, ergonomic, faceted wood handle makes application easy.

Next on my list, Caudalie Premier Eye Cream and this is something many of us will want to put on our list.  Again it has price points that exceed the brush by two, but it is the most amazing eye cream I have ever put around my eyes.  Caudalie’s three signature patents are blended at their highest concentration for unparalleled age-fighting power: Resveratrol-Oleyl for lifting and firming, Viniferine for brightening, and antioxidant-rich grape-seed Polyphenols, which makes your eye area not only look but feel amazing.

Speaking to Beauty Advisor NOT with this line but who does use it she said “Every time I run out of eye cream, I buy something different. I’m going to stick with this one for as long as I can afford it.” I received a generous sample of this cream and I saw results that I’ve never seen before using it for only 2 weeks. If you don’t mind paying for the best, pay for this one. Or put it on your wish list for you… or Santa!

Oh, Santa Baby…. I’m not asking for the yacht or the decorations from Tiffany’s… just a few items on my wish list available from Nordstrom… for me?  Please?

De-Stress Friday

Survive Black Friday? I used to love the thrill of getting up early and hoping in the car with girlfriends and heading for the nearest mall, shopping village, some boutiques and then brunch. I gave all that up a couple of years ago and now take the day off. I am more of a Cyber Monday gal these days. I like the stay at home ‘click’ of my mouse type shopping. So I spent the day relaxing, met a friend for a glass of wine, did a full facial on my skin, and then headed for the massage table. There were lots of ladies in the waiting room so I think more and more gals are enjoying De-stress Friday instead of Black.

Following on the heels of last week’s post on the new launch of Charlotte Tilbury in Dallas, I had a chance to use her Light Wonder Youth-Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation and was quite impressed with not only the application, but the product itself. It is an air-light formula that illuminates, smoothes my skin, hydrates and does a great job as it minimizes pores for perfect skin. It contains a pool of youth-boosting actives which helps give you a gorgeous baby-skin effect, while smoothing and evening out tone. Walking past the mirror several hours later I did a double take and I noticed that true to its claim this formula lasts for up to 15 hours. Product packaging states that besides great coverage it is stimulating epidermal renewal by kick-starting collagen production, delaying the onset of wrinkles and creating the perfect makeup base. Not sure about the delaying of wrinkles on that, especially if they are present already, but the light effects in the product do reduce the glare of them.

Since it is packaged in a somewhat different container here’s how I applied it. Shake well and squeeze a small amount of foundation onto the back of your hand. For a daytime look, use your fingertips or a brush to blend into your skin from the middle outwards for a tinted moisturizer effect. For the evening, carry out the same application but pat onto areas where you need extra coverage. I began with Wonder Glow primer which was discussed in my last post. Then I apply the foundation and then return to my face for added Wonderglow in those areas we want to “glow’ like cheeks, forehead and around our eyes. I must note here that this is not a thick foundation. If you are looking for full coverage, you will need to use several applications to get the effect you want. But! The results of the ‘baby-skin’ effect are impressive.

Relax. Breathe. Celebrate you. Then you can begin to decorate for the holidays and look forward to Cyber Monday and some stress-free shopping!

Make Them Wonder About Your Glow

I just love, love, love product launches… they are always, educational, inspiring and just fun, fun, fun. That’s what I literally walked into last week as I strolled through Nordstrom as I headed to the parking lot after some shopping at Chico’s. This new product line for Nordstrom was launching in Dallas, following previous debuts in London, New York Los Angeles and coincided with Chicago. Charlotte Tilbury and the idea behind her product application is not only unique but enjoyable. Made for the “naturally glamourous woman over 55, who has a little ‘dare’ in her”, it offers products that can take you from an Ingenue to Rock Chick with just a touch of your hand and a few products.

The concept: A deck of cards with different “looks” is displayed on the counter. They range from…the Ingenue, the Golden Goddess, the Uptown Girl, the Rock Chick, Dolce Vita, The Bombshell, Vintage Vamp, Glamour Muse, and of course – the Rebel. I played it safe and chose Sophisticate for my first look.

After my makeup artist, Constantine, instructed me to pick a glamour card he then showed me a list of all the products used to achieve the look listed on the back of the card. Makes shopping and decisions easy! Then, Charlotte Tilbury’s website has the ‘how to video’ for your card to give you step-by-step instructions.

I was so excited over this unique concept, my friend, Karen, and I made another visit to the Charlotte Tilbury counter at Nordstrom a few days later following our lunch. We visited with Seth, who shared more products/information with us. I picked up several products I will review over the next few weeks, but one in particular I want to share with you is Wonderglow Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash, referred to as a miracle fix. It contains collagen-boosting peptides and patented wrinkle-preventing ingredients which are fused with the light-reflecting microspheres to fill in wrinkles and scatter light to blur away lines and flood skin with luminosity. Use this ‘glow stick’ as your primer, but you can wear WonderGlow alone or under foundation. It does not make my skin look like it has too much shine, but my skin seems to appear to glow.

Charlotte Tilbury products are currently available in London, Los Angeles, Chicago and now Dallas (at Nordstrom’s) as well, as through her website.
