Red Red Wine

Beautiful Napa Valley California.  The Wine Country.  It’s been my ‘home’ for one week each summer for the last seven years.  I love the study of wine as much as I do skincare.  As soon as I arrive I immerse myself into the viticulture life of the region and everything that surrounds it.  It’s my “ahhhh” moment that lasts throughout the day and every day I am there.

We have some good friends that were there the week ahead of us and they texted us saying “it’s been in the 100s all week!”  Of course being from Texas we all acclimate to that type of weather easily.  Plus knowing the grapes love it because the nights also drop down into the 50’s it makes for some delicious wine!  But you must pack accordingly and that includes my skincare.  Fortunately the heat surge was over when we arrived and temps stayed in the 80’s the whole week, but my skincare plan didn’t change.  Those days are sun-filled and humidity is low which is hard on our skin.

My plan of using my really cute wide brimmed hat which I had purchased with Karen for the trip didn’t work out because there was a constant breeze the whole time and it wouldn’t stay on my head so I opted for my wide brimmed visor. Not my first choice but much better than going ‘naked’.

I used my Patchology FlashMasque Exfoliate Facial Sheets a few days before we left so as not to exposed my new tender skin to the sun’s rays on our first day and after that I used my FlashMasque 5 Minute Facial Sheets: Hydrate a couple of days while in the Wine Country.

To use: Exfoliate FlashMasque 5-Minute Facial Sheets should be used once a week for optimal skin health and new cell turnover. Put them on before makeup or at night.
Step 1: Unfold the masque and apply to clean, dry skin.
Step 2: Place over your entire face, pressing the material snuggly into facial contours.
Step 3: Leave on for 5 minutes (or longer if desired). It’s a great look… think Jim Carey and The Mask.  Just don’t take yourself seriously and do anything weird like he did!
Step 4: Remove the masque. No need to rinse. The serum will fully absorb into skin. Follow with your normal skin care regimen.

It is easier to use than all of my face masks since I don’t have to wash it off after and it actually takes care of the serum part of my skincare!  Then I switched to Patchology FlashMasque 5 Minute Facial Sheets: Hydrate – This mask replenishes your skin with essential ingredients hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. You’ll look dewy every day with these.  These are amazing! My skin was plumper, bags under my eyes filled, fine lines gone!

I also used my Patchology Eye Gels each morning and my skincare needs were almost covered!  Two additional skincare products – Dr. Dennis Gross Instant Radiance Sun Defense Medium-Deep (SPF40) and Capture Totale Dream Skin Cushion (SPF50) covered the rest of my needs plus a little mascara!

After that I just enjoyed the week knowing my skincare needs were met and all I had to do was relax, eat some amazing food and well… drink wine – red please!

What is the definition of a good wine? It should start and end with a smile. Pintrest

Beautiful Skin With A Bonus!

As I mentioned on my last post there were several new products which debuted during the Spring Trend Show that I want to share … and several that I purchased that I am already in love with.

Karen and I both love Dior’s Capture Totale DreamSkin Perfect Skin Creator.  It’s that little something ‘extra’ we add between our moisturizer and makeup.  Much like a primer, but it is light and brightens your skin too and makes for a ‘perfect’ poreless canvas.  We had booked our makeup session with Dior following the show so we were looking forward to seeing what’s new with Dior. And I found it!

Capture Totale Dream Skin Cushion.  Yes, it has the Dream Skin addition to the foundation, but this cushion foundation promises to refine skin texture, reduce spots, redness, and smooth, and firm the skin. It is lightweight but long lasting and protects the skin with an SPF50.  And surprise! this cushion comes with a bonus refill!

This is a light, buildable foundation, but for complete coverage I apply a small amount of my foundation and then press the cushion over it. The formula is so hydrating it makes my complexion appear more plump and dewy.  It also controls oil and shine, so it will work well with summer coming especially in warm weather climates such as Texas. But, if you prefer a no look foundation, this works too.  It’s my ‘go to’ look for the weekends or days I just only want to remove the shine and look like I’m makeupless.

As I mentioned… the compact foundation comes with its own applicator which can be turned over and used when the refill is inserted. I love this new product and it is just in time for summer.

And here’s another bonus – but you must act FAST!

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 27 is Mascara Madness at Nordstrom.  That’s when we can stock up on our favorites or try new ones.  Mascara Madness – Buy 2 mascaras and get one free!  Tomorrow only.  IF YOU ARE IN TEXAS you can call or text my favorite Beauty Consultant, Lauren Cave, at 817-948-6523 and order your mascara.  Nordstrom will ship it to you!  Tomorrow ONLY! Tell her you read this on Wrinkle Me Not and she will take care of you! Are you smiling now?  Hope so!

Primers and a Virtual Trip To Sephora

There are so many products on the market today to make your eyelashes grow long. And even longer.  And there are even more that make you brows either fill in or grow thicker as well.  I have tried several of them over the last 20 years and I will tell you that a few of them have worked so well that they carry the ‘wow’ factor to a whole new level.  But!  In saying that, I must also add they carry a pretty hefty price point.  Then the disappointment comes when you no longer want pay the price and what you have achieved disappears at the stroke of midnight.  Much like with Cinderella – the ‘pumpkin’ ie. your long lush lashes and sexy eyebrows are no more.

So, I smile as I give you a little tidbit I learned at the Dior counter a few weeks ago from the Beauty Product Specialist.   Remember the Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer we discussed in a previous post?

This mascara base from Dior gives your lashes up to three times the volume by combining the immediate enhancing effect of a mascara with the benefits of daily lash care. Your lashes are left intensely curled, thickened and lengthened, ideally primed to heighten the effect of mascara and optimize hold. Day after day, its enhancing formula helps lashes look their best by combining hyaluronic acid with plumping properties and the brand’s unrivalled Lash Maximizer™ ingredient. It’s white so you use it first and follow with your favorite mascara which for me is DiorShow.

Plus, I learned that not only is it great as a primer it’s can also be applied as an intensive deep conditioner for lashes and brows at night. These are two uses for optimal results.  I apply each day before mascara for immediate results, and on its own each night as a deep conditioner to pamper my lashes and my brows.  You will be surprised at the results.  And even better, the price points compared to the other products I used are much lower.

And! Another tidbit I received was from my amazing hair stylist and color specialist, Jimmy Moreau.  If you have not added the Sephora app to your phone, do it!  Inside the app Sephora has created is an exact replica of its chain cosmetic store. There are dozens of rows of every imaginable kind of makeup, surrounded by walls of perfume, skin cream, and beauty gadgets. Everything is there – on your phone!

This is Sephora’s new Innovation Lab. Right when you walk in the front of the virtual store, there’s an array of augmented reality videos that play on the Sephora app on your smartphone. Continue through the store and these reality background videos will pop up strategically throughout.

Be sure and visit virtually reality makeovers.  With the addition of your camera you can view yourself in a variety of makeup looks.  See one you love?  Click and your cart fills with the products to achieve it.  And!  If you don’t want everything you can sort and delete those in your cart and then purchase.  There are even tutorials available to show you how to achieve the look as well.  I spent a rainy afternoon playing with everything this app offers and had such fun.  Trust me, you will too.

Just have fun. Smile.  And keep putting on lipstick. – Facia

Airbrush From Head to Toe

Several years ago I wrote about Dior’s Airflash Spray Foundation.  I was so in love with this product I said  I will never EVER be without this product. Many cans later I still love this product.  It’s a go-to solution for professional makeup artists, and me too. Dior’s Airflash is the first revolutionary spray foundation that brings airbrushed perfection to our daily makeup routine. The scientists over at the Dior labs have created an Airflash formula that is lighter and silkier than ever for a fabulously even, flawless and radiant finish. And! It settles on your skin with no visible texture as a silky-smooth veil with long-wearing coverage. The result is instant, too. You will see a super-smooth, velvety complexion that feels like a second skin, full of radiance and glow… and flawless.

Combined with Airbrush tanning it makes the perfect look for summer.  There are no lines and the finish is beautiful!  Now, I must say don’t spray this product directly onto your face. You will waste product and you don’t want to do that since it does have a higher price point. Apply your primer over your serums like we have discussed before. Then, apply a light coat of your foundation. There is no need to cover your imperfections over and over, because AirFlash is going to take care of those and really provide a professional look to your application. A short full brush works best for the application. I use my Kabuki brush from Bare Minerals, but you could a blush brush too. Now spray the brush – not you! Just one or two quick sprays are all that’s needed and then dot your forehead, both cheeks and your chinny chin-chin. Then very quickly start blending all over your face going over your eyelids (after your primer) and under your chin and over your neck. Look in the mirror – NOW!! (and smile)

Love the look? It is available wherever Dior products are sold, including Sephora and Nordstrom. Remember, it is a foundation so you will need to get your color match. I have a medium to olive complexion and use a 400, otherwise I use 302. And, I mix the two in the fall as I trend into winter. Using it as I have mentioned, will allow your current foundation last longer and Airflash will last longer, too. This smooth polished look is amazing and it’s done in a … FLASH!

Let’s Play Makeup!

Women like Amy Robach of Good Morning America and Megyn Kelly of Fox News inspire me and that includes their makeup.  Amy Robach uses National Makeup Artist Brooke Glaser and, of course,  I am a follower of hers on Twitter.  Brooke does several other celebs on GMA among others which is why she is known as the Makeup Artist for the Stars.  And! If you have not seen the April issue of More Magazine snag one somewhere.  I actually found a copy at my pharmacy when I was picking up a prescription recently.  Megyn’s story is not only beautifully written the photos included are as well.

When I was at Guerlain recently I received a sketch of the makeup Marcus Monson applied on my makeup session.  One, it gives me a sort of step by step application guide for products used and two, if I didn’t purchase those products I can go back and obtain them at another time.

Makeup application varies from individual to individual and also the time of day.  For me, the difference is in my eye makeup – lighter colors during the day and darker for nighttime.  But! application of the products never changes.

As a quick reminder – after washing your face and applying your serums, apply a good moisturizer – one that fits with your skin type whether it’s dry/sensitive; normal; or oily.

Next, choose a really good foundation.  This is one thing you should get a professional beauty advisors help with so you get the right shade and the coverage you will want, whether it’s full coverage, medium, or light. Apply the foundation with a foundation brush if you have one or use your fingers. Be sure to apply a little below your jawline and down your neck, and blend it into your skin.

Most of us always need a good concealer which should be close to your skin tone.  Again, get advice from your beauty advisor so you will have the correct color.  To conceal any dark circles under your eye apply the concealer in an inverted triangle shape. Blend the outer corners of the triangle with your fingers.

Blush or a bronzer?  I actually use both most of the time.  Apply the bronzer and then add the blush to the apples of your cheeks.  Or, if you only want to ‘blush’ during the day, again apples and around the hairline – lightly!

As you can see by the sketch Marcus did for me, I ‘dress my eyes’ for daytime and add darker colors for nighttime wear.  Remember that to make your eyeshadow last throughout the day, apply an eye shadow primer first.  Apply your eyeliner at the top and/or bottom.  Not sure what look you want? Experiment with some different looks each day.  You don’t wear the same clothes every day… why wear the same colors on your eye?

And! Don’t forget your eyebrows.  They are your face framer right?

Many makeup artists share tips of their favorite products or looks.  Photo credit on Megyn Kelly’s spread in More Magazine, lists Dior and I know from following Brook Glaser on Twitter she uses MAC’s paint pot on Amy Robach – either Painterly or Perky.  My Beauty Bag now has both!

Beauty Behind the Veil

One Christmas gift I received was $200 at Sephora and it had been burning a hole in my new purse since I received it.  So as soon as I could, I visited with a makeup artist in the store saying with a big smile, “Show Me, Tell Me, Sample me.”  Sephora has that ‘candy store effect’ on me.  I want to sample everything. And! on that day I was lucky and met Anallely.  Not only was she very helpful and spouted so much knowledge of products, she did in indeed, believe in providing samples!

As many of you know I am a big fan of Dior’s Capture Totale Dreamskin.  This is an age-defying perfect skin creator that refines skin texture, evens skin tone, and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, as it increases radiance. I love the look it creates on my skin. So I was delighted to find another perfect skin creator by Hourglass, one of my favorite cosmetic companies.  Hourglass Veil Primer is a SPF 15 mineral-based, water-resistant primer and one of the best foundation primers I have used to date. It truly keeps any shine from forming on my skin throughout the entire day. I love the silky feel of this primer, too.  It creates a smooth, uniform canvas for flawless makeup application and the satin-finish formula helps keep my makeup looking fresh and prevents fading.

Remember a little goes a long way when it comes to application. Just place 1/2 to 1 pump of Veil Mineral Powder to clean, moisturized skin prior to concealer, foundation and powder application. It works with any cream, liquid or powder foundation.  I apply it on top of my Dreamskin, too, for a “perfect finished look” that lasts throughout the day.

Be that beauty behind the veil… and always smile!

It’s All In The Eyes!

I just love the unveiling of Dior’s new eye shadow pallets each season.  For me, it’s much like the introduction of new cars at the State Fair each fall – but much more affordable yet just as much fun in which to play.  This year’s pallet fulfilled my anticipation and, of course, I just had to add it to my every growing eye shadow palette collection.

Spring 2015 Trend Show introduced us to fabrics in soft cool hues blended with subtle warm tones from aquamarine and pale blue to tangerine and marsala with a beautiful array of eye shadows as well.  This pallet (pictured here) will enhance anyone’s wardrobe.  Dior 5 Couleurs Cuir Cannage is this year’s newest addition.  I love their 5-color pallets.  They offer us such versatility in looks we can achieve.  As with the others in Dior’s line there is a central shade which is the signature color of the palette and there are four accessory shades that can be used to create a multi-faceted look for casual daytime and updated for sophisticated evening.

Always start with your favorite eye shadow primer.  It prolongs eye makeup staying power throughout the day, preventing your eye shadow from migrating, and keeping colors even. Dior’s Back Stage Primer is in a cake block and works great however my favorite primer (at the moment) is by NARS which is in a wand/tube.

Primer on.  You now have two main choice looks with this pallet – Natural or Sophisticated.  For a natural look, create a gradation effect using the medium shade on the entire eyelid and the darker shade along the lash line. Next, highlight with the lightest shade beneath the brow arch and in the inner corner of the eye.  And, for a sophisticated look, apply the lightest shade over the entire eyelid. Contrast with the darker shade in the crease and along the lash line to create structure. Finally, apply the medium shade in the outer corner and draw it out to widen the eyes.Your choice of under the lower lashes will add a smoky look to your eyes. Complete the look with your favorite eyeliner and mascara then look in the mirror and smile – at beautiful YOU!

**Special note to those of you who have asked for a Contact Page so you can email me.  I did it!  We can talk here and around the “coffee table’ too.  I have also noticed that many of you are in the United States but I have heard from those of you in Asia, Europe, South America and Canada.  It thrills me that the language of skincare knows no boundaries!  Thank you for taking the time to stop by and read this blog that I call my ‘therapy’… your comments are so kind and so appreciated.
